Cadillac to debut LF3 Engine at New York Auto Show

Last week there were leaked technical documents leading us to believe there would be a twin turbo V6 in store for the Cadillac ATS-V. Well now we just learned that Cadillac will be offering this engine, the LF3, in the top version of the CTS, not the CTS-V. It is by far the most powerful V6 that General Motors has ever built, with 420 Hp and 430 lb-ft of torque. It is a 3.6L variable valve timing direct injection twin turbo charged monster, that Cadillac plans to mate with an 8 speed automatic.

It is easy to compare it to engines from the 335i and the 550i, one being a turbo I-6 making 300 Hp and the other a 4.4L Twin Turbo V8 producing 400Hp. GM laughs at the competition while boasting its 118Hp per liter design. David Leone, Cadillac’s chief engineer adds:

“The new Cadillac Twin-Turbo brings a new dimension of technologically advanced performance to the all-new 2014 Cadillac CTS sedan. Delivering power and sophistication, it marks another large step forward in the product-driven expansion of Cadillac.”

With that in mind the new CTS will go from 0-60 in just 4.6 seconds. Does anyone remember that the LS3 V8 make around 420 Hp, I guess the new generation of GM engines are only going to get more powerful! Long live the General!
