General Motors Trademarks LT4, LT5, LT88 and LTX

Posted

We have recently learned thanks to GM Authority, General Motors has started trade marking the names LT4, LT5, LT88 and LTX. This is something we discussed on our podcast in episode 3. When Eric asked the question, “What engine are they going to put in the Z06 and ZR1 corvette?” I gave the simple answer that they will probably make variants for the LT motor, the same thing they did with the LS engines. If you recall when the C6 was released, it was the first time we saw the LS2, and that the engine was a variant of the LS1. When the Z06 was debuted, General Motors used, yet again, another variant known as the LS7 which had a bigger displacement and more power. Why not assume that GM would do the same thing all over again. It’s cheaper, easier to mass produce, and also easier for tuners to mix and match parts. Thank you General! The LT engines are the new line-up of small block V8′s, with their direct injection and variable valve timing they are going to be some of the most power and fuel efficient engines ever produced by GM.
